Quick Brew Review: Iron & Wine "Around The Well"

Iron & Wine
Around The Well

Iron & Wine is, of course, the recording name of Sam Beam. He's been steadily cultivating his sound from his early hushed solo recordings heard on 2002's The Creek Drank The Cradle to the rich band tapestries of 2007's excellentThe Shepherd's Dog. This double CD captures all the out-of-print to never-before-released songs spanning his career. The first disc is an assortment of home recordings, unedited and raw, while the second disc captures the studio recordings with the help of other musicians, friends, and engineers. While the early recordings are well done, they'll probably more aimed at die hard fans. On the second disc, the studio work is very good and should appeal to anyone who likes acoustic based melodies and thoughtful lyrics. At over 90 minutes of music, there should be something for everyone here.
