Percolating: Cage The Elephant

What if the Rolling Stones emerged from the American South instead of Southern England?  Or say the Replacements didn't reign over the midwest, but instead wrote their brand of raw rock in the bluegrass of Kentucky. Well, then it’d be a lot easier to describe the racket drummed up by Bowling Green natives Cage The Elephant

This motley crew, led by brothers Matt and Brad Shultz, manage to make big name comparisons like the above go down easy, while stupefying fans and critics everywhere with their wildly individualistic take on Southern rock. Thanks to relentless touring and festival gigs, the band’s major label debut has been turning heads since its May release.

Currently in the midst of their first US headlining tour, the band is carting their post-modern take on country-fried rock up and a down the west coast before heading back home to the deep South. Frontman Matt Shultz has been called everything from “a demented Bible Belt preacher” to “a Tasmanian devil whooping and jumping up and down like a frenzied gibbon.” NME summed it up as “Exhilarating, 100mph stuff.” And, as their bio says, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Give a listen to their hit Ain't No Rest For The Wicked, a kiss-off to the almighty dollar and the endless pursuit to lay hands on it. Banjo, groove, sassy half-spoke lyrics and a monster chorus? What more could you ask for?  First up, the video for that song. We also have the new video and single Back Against The Wall below.
