Key Track:

This New Jersey band's debut may be the closing act for this year's explosion of lo-fi surf pop. Although they're a little late to the summer scene, the music is pleasant enough to warm up to. The heavy reverb guitars are reminiscent of more adventurous indie acts like Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear, while their hazy instrumental melodies recall Yo La Tengo and The Feelies. Beyond the highlight opener Beach Comber,  the rest of the album seems like an amalgamation of all the bedroom beach sounds we heard this year without adding much to the mix. Still, this debut stakes out some modest musical ground like a cozy starter home on the way to something bigger and better down the road, hopefully.
