Quick Brew Review: Thao With The Get Down Stay Down "Know Better Learn Faster"

We're making a last run before year end with some noteworthy 2009 album reviews. These were started at the time of release, but we just couldn't work them into our schedule. (However, you probably did see some of the album tracks posted on our playlists over the year.) Now that album releases have slowed down, we're going to get these into consideration for our best albums of the year list we'll be posting soon. - Ed

Thao With The Get Down Stay Down
Know Better Learn Faster
Release Date: October 13, 2009
Label: Kill Rock Stars

Thao Nguyen's first album with her new band We Brave Bee Stings dealt with issues about growing up. In her album life cycle, it was now time to deal with the mature problems of bad relationships and being on the road. Thao takes an emotional progression as the album unfolds, with just going through the motions of being together, wanting to say goodbye, trying to fix things, and closes with asking her partner to make it easy to end it. Break up themes can be difficult for some, but this music is playful and even buoyant at times. It's bound to move you either lyrically or musically to make it worth the journey.
