Quick Brew Review: The Antlers "Hospice"

We're making a last run before year end with some noteworthy 2009 album reviews. These were started at the time of release, but we just couldn't work them into our schedule. (However, you probably did see some of the album tracks posted on our playlists over the year.) Now that album releases have slowed down, we're going to get these into consideration for our best albums of the year list we'll be posting soon.

Year End Schedule Update: After our Christmas mix, we'll start a two part recap of our Best Albums of 2009 and we'll wrap up the year with a 4 part series of our Top 100 Songs of 2009. - Ed.

The Antlers

Hospice
Release Date: August 18, 2009
Label: Frenchkiss Records

This is one of the most difficult albums I've had to come to grips with this year. It's beautiful, haunting, at times, brilliant...and yet so damn depressing. Still, we suggest you try and listen to it. It's a concept album about watching someone you love die of bone cancer. Songwriter and singer Peter Silberman takes us on this tragic roller coaster with some very rich lyrical metaphors on life and love. While, we can appreciate the emotional depth of this album, it's probably one best reserved for sad days.
